Background: The initiation of puberty is heralded by increasing gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion from the hypothalamus. During embryonic life the GnRH neuroendocrine network develops thanks to a coordinated migration of neurons from the nasal placode to the forebrain.
